New Jersey State Bar Association Picks Candidates for Leadership Positions
NEW BRUNSWICK -- The New Jersey State Bar Association's Nominating Committee named a solo Somerset County attorney as the next secretary.
The selection means Miles S. Winder is on track to become president in 2015.
The committee also tapped a host of others for leadership positions in the state's largest lawyers group, including eight new members to its governing body, the board of trustees.
"I was encouraged by the enormous interest and number of bar association members showing an interest to serve. The task was arduous due to the extremely high qualifications of everyone involved, and it certainly is a reflection of the enthusiasm and dedication of members of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a desire to serve our members," said Frank Hoerst, chair of the Nominating Committee.
The committee made its selections after conducting a series of interviews with the candidates late last month. Unless a nominated position is challenged, they will begin service in May at the association's Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City.
Winder, 62, said he was thrilled to learn that he had been selected to join the ranks of the association's executives. He beat out three other candidates for the post.
"I am floating," said Winder, who lives and practices in Bernardsville. "It's now my turn to give back, and that is what I am looking forward to."
Winder has a long history of activity in the legal community. He served as president of the Somerset County Bar Association and its foundation, and was a trustee of Northwest Jersey Legal Services. He has also served as chair of district ethics and fee arbitration committees. Within the state bar association he has been chair of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, co-chair of the Meeting Arrangements and Program Committee, and served on the judicial and prosecutorial vetting committee.
The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Nominating Committee announces the following slate of candidates for positions on the NJSBA Board of Trustees, Nominating Committee and ABA House of Delegates with terms beginning in May 2010.
