Kevin P. McCann Becomes Second Vice President of the New Jersey State Bar Association
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—
Kevin P. McCann, co-founder of the Bridgeton law firm of Chance & McCann, took the oath of office as second vice-president of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He took the oath Thursday, May 14, at the association’s Annual Meeting and Convention at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City.
When he assumes the presidency of the NJSBA in 2012, he will become the first NJSBA president from Bridgeton in nearly 100 years since Walter H. Bacon, Esq. in 1919.
As an officer of the NJSBA, McCann will also serve as trustee for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the NJSBA’s philanthropic arm.
An NJSBA member since 1975, he served on the association’s Board of Trustees from 2000 to 2006 and is a member of the Taxation Law Section.
He is the current co-chair of the Task Force on Disaster Planning, which address planning for law firms in the event of a disaster. The task force has completed a planning guide available on the NJSBA website (www.njsba.com) that is a model by the American Bar Association and Maryland State Bar.
He is a past president of the Cumberland County Bar Association and also served on the Board of Trustees of L.E.G.A.L. from 1988 to 1991.
A member of the Association of Trial Lawyers, McCann served on the association’s New Jersey Branch Board of Governors from 1982 to 1996. He is a member of the American Bar Association and has been a member of the Mandatory Automobile Arbitration Panel since 1985.
McCann’s community involvement includes service on the Cumberland County College Board of Trustees, as President and on the Board of Trustees of the South Jersey Drug Treatment Center and on the Board of the Alumni Association of Widener Law School.
A former prosecutor, McCann is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a certified trial attorney, a certified trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and a member of the Statewide Mediation Program for Civil, General Equity and Probate Cases.
A graduate of Monmouth University and Delaware Law School of Widener University, he received his LLM in tax from Temple University School of Law.
He lives in Upper Deerfield Township with his wife, Sheila. The couple has
two daughters, Shanna McCann, Esq., and Kristin McCann who is a student of veterinary medicine at St. George’s University.
