Douglas Singleterry Receives Service to the Community Award

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Douglas Singleterry, a North Plainfield resident and attorney with the Cranford law firm of Dughi & Hewit was presented with the Young Lawyers Division Service to the Community Award at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in Atlantic City on May 16.

The Service to the Community Award is presented to a young lawyer who has devoted substantial time and energy to community-oriented activities such as pro bono work, government service, charity involvement or other public service.

An NJSBA member since 2006, Mr. Singleterry specializes in medical malpractice defense litigation. He is a graduate of New York Law School and Drew University, and focuses his community services in Somerset County. Mr. Singleterry is a member of the North Plainfield Borough Council and the borough’s Youth Service Commission and Economic Development Committee. He previously served as a member of the North Plainfield Planning Board.

Mr. Singleterry is a member and vice-chair of the Tri-County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which covers Union, Middlesex and Somerset counties. While serving an externship at the Urban Justice Center in New York City in 2002, he worked as a disaster relief center volunteer for World Trade Center victims and participated in a survey documenting the economic impact of the attacks on lower Manhattan.

The New Jersey State Bar Association, incorporated in 1899, is dedicated to the continuing education of lawyers and the public, to reforming and improving the legal system and to aiding in the administration of justice. Visit the association’s website at
