Alexa B. D’Amato Receives NJSBA Young Lawyer of the Year Award

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Linwood attorney, Alexa B. D’Amato received the esteemed Young Lawyer of the Year Award from the Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association at the Association’s Annual Meeting in Atlantic City on May 17th. The Young Lawyer of the Year Award is presented annually to an attorney practicing 10 years or less whose personal and professional achievements merit special recognition, and who has made unique community and public service contributions, has actively participated in the organized bar and has stood out in the areas of professional knowledge, skill, integrity and courtesy.

Ms. D’Amato is a partner in the D’Amato Law Firm in Linwood, Atlantic County, New Jersey. She graduated from Rutgers School of Law in 2001 and has been representing people in personal injury litigation, construction claims and product liability cases with the D’Amato Law Firm since 2002. Ms. D’Amato was recognized in 2006 by Atlantic City Weekly and the Greater Atlantic Jaycees as a “Top 40 under 40” for Atlantic County.

Ms. D’Amato is a trustee of the Atlantic County Bar Association and was Chair of their New Lawyers Division from its rebirth in 2004 to May, 2006 when the torch was passed to Alexander J. Barrera from Perskie, Nehmad and Perillo. She was nominated for the Young Lawyer of the Year Award by Donna Michael-Ziereis, who said “Alexa has completely rejuvenated our Young Lawyers Division. She created four signature annual events and they are some of the best attended events we’ve ever had. Her group does fundraising for the Bar and our community. When we need volunteers for any Bar function, Alexa rallies her troops and volunteers come forward, and there are some strong young leaders rising from the group, which will serve our county and the state Bar very well into the future. We are very fortunate to have her as part of our Bar Association.”

On the State level, Ms. D’Amato is on the Board of Governors for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America-New Jersey Chapter, where she has been a speaker at their seminars since 2005. Nationally, Ms. D’Amato is proud to be integrally involved with the American Association for Justice (AAJ) where she is Secretary of their New Lawyers Division, and has been appointed to various committees.

Ms. D’Amato is also closely involved with many local organizations. She is on the Board of the Atlantic County Women’s Center and on the Steering Committee for the Shore Memorial Hospital Health Foundation Leaders Alliance. Most recently, she has joined the United Way Women’s Leadership Initiative.

In accepting the Young Lawyer of the Year Award, Ms. D’Amato said, “I am honored that the New Jersey State Bar Association has chosen to recognize me out of all of the many bright and successful young attorneys throughout the State. I have been so very blessed to have my father and so many other Atlantic County attorneys as mentors. I look forward to helping other young attorneys and making my community proud.”

The New Jersey State Bar Association, incorporated in 1899, is dedicated to the continuing education of lawyers and the public, to reforming the legal system and to aiding in the administration of justice.
