Michael R. Clarke Named Essex County Trustee

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ-Michael Clarke, an Orange resident and the incoming Vice President, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, was named Essex County Trustee to the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) on June 16. Clarke fills a vacancy that was created when Susan A. Feeney was named Secretary of the NJSBA. The 45 member Board of Trustees oversees the affairs and property of the NJSBA.

Clarke has been a member of the NJSBA for 15 years and has been active in the Criminal Law and Minorities in the Profession Sections.

Clarke is a member of the Board of Directors of the Garden State Bar Association, which is an African-American Bar for the past 6 years. He was also a Trustee of the Essex County Bar Association for the past 5 years.

In addition to this, he is also a member of the American Bar Associations’ Section of Business Law and the incoming Chair of the American Bar Association’s Corporate Compliance Committee. He has previously been active in the Essex Inn of Court.

A graduate of Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies, Clarke went on to receive his J.D. from Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York.

The New Jersey State Bar Association, incorporated in 1899, is dedicated to the continuing education of lawyers and the public, to reforming and improving the legal system and to aiding in the administration of justice.
