Law Office Management Benefits for NJSBA Members

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Jersey State Bar Association website, www.njsba.com, is the online resource for our members on critical issues facing the bar, breaking news and developments, membership benefits, the meetings calendar and online registration process, materials for professional development, NJSBA publications, networking via NJSBA section online communities, contacts for staff departments and descriptions, and much more at the click of a mouse.

It is one of the best places to find out what the NJSBA is doing—from its home page notices, to Board of Trustee summaries compiled under NJSBA Reports. It’s where New Jersey Lawyer Magazine is accessible online to NJSBA members. Nonmembers can purchase articles and/or magazines for a fee, but article previews are a members-only feature. It’s where employers and employees can use the Legal Career Center as a recruiting resource. It’s where to find the latest information and online registration for Annual Meeting 2005 and the April 21 “Becoming a Rainmaker” seminar. The rainmaking seminar also provides 2.0 NY practice management credits through the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).

The NJSBA website is updated on a regular basis to help keep our members informed and to provide current, instructive, easy-to-use resources and a mechanism for effective communication.

NJSBA members must log in with their ID number and password for access to all portions of the website. The site provides a 24/7-password recall feature for those forgotten NJSBA passwords. The NJSBA initiated a new log in procedure that requires members to change their password from the automatic default. When updating the password, be sure to provide a question and answer. To use the 24/7-password recall, after selecting the Member Login button, enter the NJSBA ID number and select “Forgot Your Password? Click Here.” The prompt will ask for the NJSBA ID number, e-mail address and the answer to the question. You can also call the NJSBA if you need assistance with your password at 732-249-5000 during regular business hours.

LAW OFFICE MANAGEMENT (LOM)

The Law Office Management module at www.njsba.com is the beneficiary of the most recent face-lift to the association’s web page. The most noticeable difference is the “Search LOM” feature that appears at the top of each Law Office Management screen. If the website visitor is not sure what law office management topic their question falls under, this handy search tool will help direct the inquiry to the right place quickly and easily. The “Search LOM” feature can only be used in the LOM module.

To access this section of the NJSBA website, go to www.njsba.com, and select the green “Managing Your Law Office” button on the left.

The Law Office Management module has been arranged into select categories including: NJ CiteLine SM, Law Office Management Articles, Law Practice Books, Legal Software Directory, Legal Malpractice and Essential Role of the Paralegal.

NJ CITELINESM

From the LOM home page, visitors can access information about NJ CiteLineSM, the NJSBA member benefit that offers savings and convenience through a customized, web-based legal research product powered by LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news and business information services.

NJ CiteLine provides unlimited access to primary New Jersey legal sources FREE to NJSBA members through the association’s website, www.njsba.com.

NJ CiteLine sources include decisions of the NJ Supreme Court from 1790, NJ Superior Court from 1792 and NJ Tax Court from 1979. CiteLine also contains the NJ Statutes, NJ Constitution, NJ Administrative Code and NJ Court Rules.

Recent improvements to CiteLine allow users to conduct one combined search for cases on a particular issue in all New Jersey courts, including the Tax Court, Law and Appellate Divisions and the Supreme Court, without the need to conduct separate searches in each court.

Federal sources available through CiteLine include U.S. Supreme Court Cases from 1790, US Circuit Court of Appeals Cases from 1995, Bankruptcy Appellate Panel from 1995 and Supreme Court and Appellate Cases from the 50 states from 1995.

NJSBA members can also upgrade their research capabilities through links on the CiteLine pages that will connect to Shepard's Citations at a discount for NJSBA members, Lexis Pay-As-You-Go options, and more.

In addition to the link on the LOM home page, members can reach CiteLine directly from the home page of www.njsba.com. NJSBA members should log on to the NJSBA website with their NJSBA ID number and password and scroll down to the NJ CiteLine item and select “Click here to access NJ CiteLine.”
