Stuart A. Hoberman Named President-Elect Of New Jersey State Bar Association

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Marlboro resident Stuart A. Hoberman was installed as president-elect of the New Jersey State Bar Association on May 20 at the organization’s annual meeting in Atlantic City. Hoberman also serves as trustee for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the NJSBA’s philanthropic arm.

A shareholder and director of the Woodbridge law firm of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, Hoberman is chair of the firm’s Business Law and Financial Services Department. He has been a member of the NJSBA for 28 years and served on the board of trustees from 1990 to 1994, and again beginning in 1997 until his installation as secretary in 2001.

Hoberman is the current chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Multi-Disciplinary Practice and is a former chair of the General Council Executive and Program committees, and Corporate and Business and Banking Law sections. Within the sections, he served as chair of the Corporate Law and Financial Transactions committees. In addition, he served on the Long-Term Planning, Law Center and Meetings, Arrangements and Travel committees. Hoberman was also a member of the Centennial Committee and chair of its fund-raising subcommittee.

A past president, first vice president and treasurer of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, Hoberman served as chair of the Foundation’s Bylaws, Public Education and Finance committees. He also served as a member of the Seminars and Programs Subcommittee.

Hoberman is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a former trustee of the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey. From 2000 to 2001, he served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Special Committee on Surrogates’ Intermingled Trust Funds and chaired its Financial Issues Subcommittee.

Hoberman has been a lecturer for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education since 1979. He is the author of numerous articles published in the New Jersey Lawyer Newspaper, New Jersey Lawyer Magazine, American Banker, Business News of New Jersey and publications of the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

He is a member of the Middlesex County and American Bar Associations, and served as chair of the county bar’s Committee on Corporate, Banking and Business Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section on Business Law.

Active within his community, Hoberman is a member of the board of trustees of Cancer Care of New Jersey and a former vice president and trustee of the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation. He is also a member of Garden State Credit Associates, the Bank Lawyers Council of the New Jersey Bankers Association and a former member of the Business Ambassador Program of Prosperity New Jersey.

A 1969 graduate of Baruch Business School, City College of New York, Hoberman received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School and a master of laws degree from New York University School of Law. He is a 1964 graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx.

The New Jersey State Bar Association, incorporated in 1899, is dedicated to the continuing education of lawyers and the public, to reforming and improving the legal system and to aiding in the administration of justice.
