Edwin McCreedy Named President-Elect Of The New Jersey State Bar Association

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Edwin J. McCreedy, a Cranford attorney and Colts Neck resident, will be installed as president-elect of the New Jersey State Bar Association at the organization’s annual meeting in Atlantic City on May 15. McCreedy also serves as a trustee for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the NJSBA’s philanthropic arm.

Certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a civil trial attorney, McCreedy has been a member of the NJSBA for more than 35 years and served for three years on the Board of Trustees prior to his installation as treasurer in 2001. He is a former treasurer and current member of the Board of Directors of The New Jersey Lawyer, Inc., which oversees New Jersey Lawyer — the Weekly Newspaper, the official newspaper of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

In June 2001, McCreedy was inducted as a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL), an organization widely considered the most exclusive and prestigious trial lawyers’ organization in the world. Membership in the academy is by invitation only and limited to 500 trial lawyers from the United States. Admission is based on peer evaluation of attorneys and judges. McCreedy is also a Fellow and former state chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and International Society of Barristers, and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Within the NJSBA, McCreedy is a former chair of the Judicial Administration Committee and the Special Committee to Study Contingent Fees. A member of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Publication of Opinions and the Civil Courts Task Force, McCreedy also served as an executive committee member of the Civil Trial Bar Section.

In addition to his NJSBA involvement, McCreedy is a past president, officer and trustee of the Union County Bar Association. He also served on the county association’s Judicial and Prosecutorial Selection Committee.

McCreedy is a former trustee of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey and a co-founder and past president of the Richard J. Hughes American Inn of Court. He has served on the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Civil Practice and Civil Task Force Implementation Review committees, in addition to the Committee to Evaluate Court Reporting Improvements. A member of the American Bar and American Trial Lawyers associations, McCreedy served on the Development Committee and New Jersey Coordinating Council for the American Inns of Court.

McCreedy is a partner in the Cranford law firm of McCreedy & Cox. A 1961 graduate of Columbia College in New York, he received his law degree from Fordham Law School in 1968. McCreedy served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965, attaining the rank of Captain.

The New Jersey State Bar Association, incorporated in 1899, is dedicated to the continuing education of lawyers and the public, to reforming and improving the legal system and to aiding in the administration of justice.
