Statement of NJSBA President Kevin P. McCann Regarding 2013 Annual Meeting and Convention

After thoughtful consideration and review, the New Jersey State Bar Association announces that the May 15-17 Annual Meeting and Convention will be relocated to the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa. Although we planned to hold the gathering at Revel, recent decisions made by Revel have led us to conclude that Revel, in several significant respects, will not be ready to host our event. The Board of Trustees made this decision after serious consideration and review of many factors.

The NJSBA Annual Meeting and Convention is our premiere event. It is the largest gathering of the New Jersey legal community, and we take seriously our responsibility to provide our members and guests hassle-free CLE, quality networking, and the highest level of service and hospitality.

We take these steps to ensure the Annual Meeting and Convention will provide you with a meaningful experience. We are pleased that this year’s conference will feature more than 70 judges from every bench around the state, including all of the sitting members of the state Supreme Court and nearly every New Jersey assignment judge. The convention will also include programs spanning virtually every area of law, as well as a special track examining the threats to judicial independence the Judiciary has faced throughout history and today. The three-day event will offer attendees the opportunity to network at gatherings and learn about the latest products and services available to the legal community from our exhibitors.

I look forward to seeing you at Borgata, a venue that has served our members well for several years, and where we expect to hold another successful meeting.

INFORMATION FOR CLE SEMINAR PARTICIPANTS

I am coordinating a CLE seminar; is anything going to change as a result of this move?

The Annual Meeting and Convention will feature programs covering virtually every area of practice, as well as a special track examining the threats to judicial independence the Judiciary has faced. In addition, we are pleased that over 70 judges from every bench around the state, including all of the sitting members of the state Supreme Court and nearly every New Jersey assignment judge, will be joining us.

We will be able to accommodate all of the programs that are already being coordinated. As always, our CLE staff is working to prepare the highest-quality programming possible and will assign the timing and location of each program.

Will there be enough meeting space for the attendees?

Yes. We are working diligently with resort staff to ensure attendees will be able to enjoy the highest level of hospitality and have adequate meeting space, areas for networking opportunities, and will be able to enjoy the resort’s full slate of amenities.
